Self-Service BI Vs Traditional BI
Now let’s identify the difference between the two main BI Systems.
- In general, there are two main types of BI.
- Traditional BI and Self-service BI
QlikView ،Qlik sense،Tableau and Power BI are self-service BI tools,On the other hand, Microsoft BI, IBM Cognos, and Oracle BI are examples of traditional BI tools.
- Now, What are the differences?
- Self-service BI tools are capable of Achieving profit and decision-making with the least amount of time and the least background knowledge of IT, Without the need of a data warehouse.
- On the other hand, implementing traditional BI tools requires more time because it needs a data warehouse.
Furthermore, the application of requests and changes must be handled by an IT team, which in turn increases the expenses.
Question? With all the advantages/benefits of self-service bi software, why don’t we stick to Them in the first place? The volume of data, dirty data, and the variety of systems determines the needed software. For example, if you have a billion records across various systems in different geographical locations, it is better to use traditional BI tools to sort the data. And for the visualization part, it is better to use a self-service BI tool .(in my opinion this is the best practice)
